Out of about 14,300 soldiers full strength, of whom some 7,500 were front line soldiers, 3,650 were killed, 13,729 wounded, 41,569 injured and 3,615 missing in action for a total of 62,563—among the highest of the war—requiring 24,874 replacements of whom the author was one. (from Unknown Soldiers, page 413)
